On Friday 12 September, Metro Tasmania will join Lifeline at their Out of the Shadows into
the Light – a walk to commemorate World Suicide Prevention Day.
Metro will provide free shuttle services from Salamanca Place to the Cenotaph on the
Domain where the walk will begin.
“A number of Metro employees have been personally affected by suicide, so this cause is
very close to our heart,” said Metro’s General Manager Business Improvement Services,
Rod Byfield.
“We support the Speak Up Stay ChatTY campaign, and are proud to add our support and
commitment to Lifeline’s event to remember those lost to suicide.”
The Metro buses will transport participants from Salamanca Place at 5.15am to the
Cenotaph for the 5.45am walk to Salamanca Lawns.
Suicide is the leading cause of death for Australians under the age of 44. Each day, Lifeline
provides crisis support to more than 2000 people. If you need support, call Lifeline on 13 11
14.
“Everyone has a role to play,” said Mr Byfield, encouraging people who could not make the
event to donate to one of the many worthwhile suicide prevention programs.
