Free Metro Tasmania bus travel for last Sunday of Dark Mofo

Metro Tasmania and Dark Mofo are thrilled to announce their partnership in offering free city-wide bus travel across Hobart on Sunday, 18 June, from 3pm–9pm.

This initiative aims to provide the Hobart community an opportunity to travel and experience iconic Dark Mofo events for free, including the Ogoh-Ogoh Burning, Winter Feast, and Dark Park.

Anticipating an enthusiastic turnout in the city to celebrate the festival’s final Sunday and the impending winter solstice, families are encouraged to take advantage of the free Metro bus services to and from Hobart’s waterfront precinct.

Passenger will not need to tap their GreenCard during this time.

Most buses arrive at the Hobart Central Bus Interchange on the corner of Macquarie and Elizabeth Street, which is within walking distance from almost all Dark Mofo venues. Routes and timetable available here.

The annual Ogoh-Ogoh procession will commence at Parliament Lawns from 5pm and take the familiar route to Macquarie Point via Davey Street, reaching this year’s burning site at Dark Park by 6pm.

Per previous years, traffic management will be in place between 5pm and 7pm for this event – including full closures of Morrison and Gladstone Streets; closures on parts of Argyle Street, Davey Street and the Brooker Highway; as well as ongoing closures of Evans Street and Hunter Street for Dark Park.

On Sunday 18 June, the platypus sculpture will become the centrepiece of the annual Ogoh-Ogoh community procession, making its way from Parliament Lawns through the streets of the waterfront to Dark Park where the sculpture, along with the community’s fears, will be ceremoniously burned.

The event is scheduled to finish by 6.30pm, and participants are invited to take in the final evening of both Dark Park and Winter Feast for free.

Dark Park and Winter Feast will open for their final day on Sunday 18 June at 4pm, with both closing at 10pm.

Metro is pleased to support Dark Mofo in delivering a safe, successful and inclusive festival experience, and looks forward to welcoming community members from across Hobart to celebrate the coming winter solstice.
