An exciting opportunity exists at Metro’s maintenance facilities for a qualified Heavy Vehicle Mechanic and leader to join and lead our Launceston team.
Duties include:
- Supervise the activities of trades person and apprentices
- Liaise with Operations supervisors to ensure bus fleet availability meets daily demand and expected standards of safety and cleanliness are met
- Promote and drive safe work practices which improve lost time injuries and workers compensation due to minimising injuries; and promote wellbeing and preventative activities.
- Diagnosis and repair of mechanical defects in buses
- Prioritise plan and schedule workshop tasks
- Ensure parts and components are ordered and allocated, all work orders are completed correctly, and accreditation standards are met
- Diagnosis of faults on multiplex electrical systems
- Programmed maintenance and repair work
- Completing accurate records of repairs and servicing to proper standards
In order to be successful in this role you must possess the following skills, attributes and qualifications:
- Trade qualifications
- Experience with heavy vehicles preferred
- Proven leadership skills
- Ability to document, record and track servicing and maintenance of all vehicles
- High level computer literacy skills
- Strong organisational and contract management abilities
- Hold a current driver’s licence
- Have evidence of all Covid vaccinations
- Be willing to undertake a full medical assessment including drug and alcohol testing

A trade certificate, medium rigid license and Certificate IV in frontline management are preferred.
