An exciting opportunity exists at Metro’s maintenance facilities for a qualified Heavy Vehicle Mechanic and leader to join and lead our Launceston team.

Duties include:

  • Supervise the activities of trades person and apprentices
  • Liaise with Operations supervisors to ensure bus fleet availability meets daily demand and expected standards of safety and cleanliness are met
  • Promote and drive safe work practices which improve lost time injuries and workers compensation due to minimising injuries; and promote wellbeing and preventative activities.
  • Diagnosis and repair of mechanical defects in buses
  • Prioritise plan and schedule workshop tasks
  • Ensure parts and components are ordered and allocated, all work orders are completed correctly, and accreditation standards are met
  • Diagnosis of faults on multiplex electrical systems
  • Programmed maintenance and repair work
  • Completing accurate records of repairs and servicing to proper standards

In order to be successful in this role you must possess the following skills, attributes and qualifications:

  • Trade qualifications
  • Experience with heavy vehicles preferred
  • Proven leadership skills
  • Ability to document, record and track servicing and maintenance of all vehicles
  • High level computer literacy skills
  • Strong organisational and contract management abilities
  • Hold a current driver’s licence
  • Have evidence of all Covid vaccinations
  • Be willing to undertake a full medical assessment including drug and alcohol testing

A trade certificate, medium rigid license and Certificate IV in frontline management are preferred.
