Join the team at Metro Tasmania – Your Career in Motion

At Metro, we work to keep Tassie moving – we’ve been connecting people and communities for over 60 years.

As the largest Tasmanian-owned public transport company, we’re all about providing our customers with bus journeys that matter in this ever-growing, beautiful state of ours. And we’re seeking a team of passionate people to get the job done.

Are you looking for flexibility? We are seeking engaging, customer-focused people like you to help us deliver safe, welcoming and essential transport services across Hobart.

Flexible roles available including:

Kingborough-based: a great opportunity for Kingborough residents wanting to work locally, beginning and ending your day in Kingston. Excitingly, the proposed Southern Outlet is set to get a major upgrade with the development of a transit lane. This upgrade will greatly improve public transport access and increase the number of passengers it can accommodate. Come and be a part of the improvements, by helping to connect and deliver these vital services to and from Kingborough!

School Term: this role is perfect for people passionate about delivering exceptional customer service and value a work-life balance. Our School Term drivers work Monday to Friday shifts, with weekends and the entire school holidays off.

Part Time: Various part time positions would suit individuals who are looking for flexibility to balance work with other responsibilities, such as caregiving or education, or would simply love the opportunity to keep busy with some extra driving throughout the week.

What you’ve got:

  • You enjoy providing an exceptional customer experience and the rewarding nature of the day-to-day interactions with passengers from all walks of life
  • You have a good driving history, with the capacity to learn to safely and reliably drive a heavy passenger vehicle

What you’ll need:

  • Complete a National Police Check from Tasmania Police
  • Hold (or are able to obtain) a working with vulnerable people (WWVP) card
  • Hold a current, full Australian Driver’s Licence (valid for at least 2 years)
  • Have full working rights in Australia
  • Pass a pre-employment physical assessment, including a Drug and Alcohol test
  • Obtain a Public Passenger Vehicle (PPV) licence

What’s in it for you?

  • Be a part of a passionate and energetic team
  • 6-weeks paid, comprehensive induction to set you up for success
  • Free Metro bus travel and employee parking
  • An on-site canteen and modern facilities
  • Exciting opportunities for career growth and up-skilling
  • The ability to work within a proud, Tasmanian company with a diverse and inclusive working environment

If you have a role preference when applying, please indicate so on your application.

Don’t have a heavy vehicle licence yet? No stress. We can train those who have the necessary capability and mindset.

We welcome applications from all community groups and backgrounds and encourage you to apply if you meet the criteria, no matter age or gender.
