Real-Time Tracking Update for Metro Tas App

Metro real time tracking

This week, Metro launched an upgrade to our Metro Tas App, bringing real-time bus tracking to our customers in Hobart, Burnie and Launceston.

Like other Tasmanian-based public transport operators, our team has worked closely with and supported the Department of State Growth in its rollout of real-time tracking technology.

The Metro Tas app now allows customers to:

  • see their bus’s location on a map,
  • if the bus is running on time,
  • and how many minutes away the bus is from arriving at their selected stop

These new features are in addition to the tools that customers know and love including the app’s ability to save regular bus stops and routes for quick use, check service alerts and plan with timetables and Metro’s Trip Planner.

At the launch this week, our CEO, Katie Cooper, shared that the introduction of real-time tracking was a major step forward for Metro in our ongoing work to modernise our public transport offering in Tasmania.
“Real-time tracking allows us to deliver a more reliable, convenient and accessible service and supports our vision to make the journey better for all Tasmanians.”

*100 per cent of Metro’s buses have been fitted with real-time technology, with around 85 per cent of trips currently showing real-time information. Metro continues work to increase the number of trips showing real-time information.
