Today marks a significant milestone for Metro with the launch of our Zero Emission Bus (ZEB) Trial in Launceston. Deputy Premier, Michael Ferguson MP, and Metro CEO, Katie Cooper, unveiled our four new Battery Electric Buses (BEBs), which begin passenger service in Launceston today, 25 January 2024.
Over the two-year trial, our BEBs will be gathering valuable insights and data on the use of this technology in Tasmania’s unique weather and terrain. Later this year, we will launch the next phase of our ZEB Trial with three Hydrogen Electric Buses servicing Hobart’s network.
This is an important step in Metro’s modernisation journey, in line with the government’s goal of net zero emissions from 2030. Metro is proud to be on board with a better, more sustainable public transport future for Tasmania.
