Launceston: free UTAS student travel during Welcome Week

We are proud to partner with the TUU to offer all University of Tasmania students free travel on our Launceston Turn Up and Go timetable during Welcome Week.

Simply show your UTAS student ID when you board a route 6, 7, 8 or 10 service between Monday 26 February and Friday 2 March to travel free!

Buses from Launceston to the University via Mowbray run every 10-20 minutes*, so there’s no fuss if you miss the bus.

Turn Up and GO works by combining a number of routes to form a high frequency service travelling between the Launceston CBD and the University of Tasmania via Mowbray and Inveresk. It connects both Newnham and Inveresk campuses.

Click here to view the timetable, or use the Trip Planner to make your travel even easier.

*Monday to Friday between 8am and 6pmServices during University semester operate every 10 minutes, during University vacation services run at alternately every 10 and 20 minutes.

Use a Greencard for cheaper travel all year round

If you’re studying full time at UTAS this year, you’re eligible for an adult concession Greencard, which offers a flat $1.84 fare, a low daily cap of $2.90 or $5.60 in the urban area, and a 20% discount in the non-urban areas of Burnie and Hobart! It makes boarding faster and more convenient without the need to worry about correct change – simply top it up online or by giving cash to the driver.

To get yours, click here or come and say hello at our Marketplace stall on Tuesday 27 February 2018 at Newnham campus (10am to 2pm).

Travel tips to make your travel as smooth as possible

  • Be at your stop five minutes before your bus is scheduled to depart. This allows time for any delays during boarding and eliminates any last minute dash to the stop.
  • Signal for the bus driver to stop. Many different routes service each bus stop and it can be difficult for the driver to know which service the people waiting at a stop require.
  • Be respectful of your driver and fellow passengers. As per our conditions of travel, offensive or disruptive behaviour will not be tolerated on Metro buses.
  • Download the Metro App to have a Trip Planner, access to your personal Greencard profile, and important network alerts at your fingertips on the go.
