There was a small rise in fares that came into effect on 3 January 2016. Student cash fares have risen from $1.40 to $1.60. Student Greencard fares are just $1.28, and Greencard Daily Caps $3.20.
Greencard allows you free transfers within an hour and a half of the first boarding.

While students can top up their Greencards on the bus, to avoid unnecessary delays to services on the first day of school, Metro recommends that student Greencards be topped-up prior to travel. This can be done either through the Metro website, via the Metro App, at the Metro Shop in Hobart, at the Metro depots in Launceston and Burnie, at any Greencard agent, or by phoning 13 22 01.
